CivilTech Engineering, Inc. is hiring an Assistant Engineer with 2+ years of experience in its Cypress, Texas office. This person will primarily be responsible for assisting with projects and proposals within our premiere Water Resources Group. On a daily basis, this person will be performing hydrologic and hydraulic studies for flood control projects, storm water drainage systems, master drainage plans, and highway drainage systems. A successful candidate must have passed EIT exam and have a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or similar with an emphasis in Water Resources.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs a variety of clearly defined assignments that require the application of standard design engineering techniques, procedures and criteria.

Using prescribed methods, applies techniques to specific civil engineering or construction projects

Provides civil design calculations

Reads/interprets surveys and researches design options

Excellent verbal/written communication. Responsible for writing and creating technical project reports

Working knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation and Civil 3D

Reviews work for discrepancies or inconsistencies, adjusts and correlates data, and follows operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes to completion under the guidance of an experienced engineer.

Supports mid and senior level engineers to complete planning, research preliminary design, and may be required to perform detailed design modeling tasks.

Undertakes basic research on engineering conditions and laws and permitting organizations such as City, State and County officials to develop knowledge of permitting process and the application of codes to engineering assignments.

Assists with the preparation of documentation including plans, maps, drawings, reports, data spreadsheets, specifications, supporting documents and permit applications.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 2 years of experience within Water Resources (i.e. H&H, drainage systems, flood control, etc.)

  • Basic working knowledge of standard software for hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, including USACE HEC Software (HEC-HMS, HEC-GeoHMS, HEC-RAS, HEC-GeoRAS, HEC-DSS) and ESRI ArcGIS.
  • Received EIT license and intention to sit for PE exam when eligible
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Experience in TxDOT or transportation engineering is preferred

LANGUAGE SKILLS: 
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

COMPUTER AND MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Candidate must demonstrate basic knowledge of Microstation and GeoPak, including Corridor Modeler. Demonstrates basic knowledge of design applications such as hydraulic design and roadway design. Must be proficient in the usage of Microsoft Office Suite products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry, trigonometry and financial functions.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
